The Bahamas is an independent nation consisting of over 700 islands and cays (pronounced “keys”) and a little over 300,000 people.  This beautiful archipelago begins only 50 miles off the coast of Florida and stretches over 5,000 square miles southeast.  At the heart of this island chain is the island of Great Exuma (“Ex-oo-mah").

Great Exuma still shows signs of its early history with old colonial ruins around the main settlement of Georgetown, and traces of cotton still line some of the roads on the island. Great Exuma is the fastest growing “Family Island”, a term Bahamians use to describe the less populated islands scattered away from the capital, Nassau.  These Family Islands are still mostly untouched by development and offer the most beautiful beaches and coral reefs in The Bahamas. (How to Get Here)

At the northern tip of Great Exuma begins the pride and joy of The Bahamas: The Exuma Cays.  The cays are the definition of “Tropical Paradise”; island after island with nothing but deserted, white, powdery, sand beaches and un-tampered coral reefs in shallow crystal clear waters.  Sea Turtles, rays, and baby sharks roam freely through this island chain that has yet to be severely altered by man.  Halfway up the chain of cays is Staniel Cay, the perfect oasis complete with airstrip, yacht club, restaurants, grocery stores and a small hotel.

Once you pass Staniel Cay, you will begin to enter the Exuma Land and Sea Park, a large stretch of beautiful paradise completely protected from fishing and development.  Because of its beauty, the park is often sought out by visitors, but because of its isolation many find it difficult and expensive to reach.  Out-Island Explorers offers you one of the best ways to see the park with our sailing expedition!  Cover as much ground (or water) as you want per day and enjoy the gorgeous scenery along the way!  After you reach the park and are ready to return, we’ll have a chartered flight ready to bring you back to George Town.

With direct flights from Florida, Exuma is the best spot for your next vacation.  Isolated enough to be exotic, yet you will still be able to enjoy enough amenities to be more than comfortable!
